This morning we received a letter by our uncle Matt from Hamburg. There was a beautiful mixtape, a funny photograph and some good news inside.
Dear nephews,
long ago I promised you a mixtape…good things come to those who wait. Most of the songs and tracks didn’t fit into my previous mixes, sometimes because of their slow tempo or because it didn’t make sense to beatmatch them. For ages, I wanted to do a mixtape that praises slowness. And maybe the fact that the sun was shining and that it was for you for you made it turn out that way.
Since we haven’t spoken for a while I would like to give you an update about my life here in Hamburg. A good night out (Disco-wise) you can always have at Phuong-Dan‘s “Gatto Muscoloso” at Golden Pudel Club. They don’t go for the usually Neodisco and Edits there but rather for the originals in all their variety plus some Rock, Krautrock, Avantgarde, early Electronics and other obscurities. Betalounge is in it’s 10th year and is still supplying us with excellent Live and DJ-Sets every Saturday night from 6 pm. Unfortunately, “I feel this” had to stop after having some high-class guests like Theo Parrish, Greg Wilson or Maurice Fulton. But the crew will be back with some specials during summer which leads us nicely to the “Oberhafenkantine” which is an open air club on Sunday afternoon. Last year there was ace!
After the three Glossy-Releases in 2007 and 2008 I decided to start a new label called “Little Leaf”. The first release which is in the shops this week features a really nice “Porque Te Vas” Re-Edit by Nelue from Madrid alongside one by myself. Of course it’s vinyl only! You know that I used to be a filmmaker so you might not be surprised that the visual appearance of the record is almost as important as the music itself. So I’m glad to tell you that the Hamburg based illustrator Anna Vaehaeoja does the artwork. She’s fantastic!
I hope you boys doing all good! Do you still enjoy to spin that ol’ dusty vinyl!?
See you soon in Dresden or Hamburg!
Hugs,
your uncle Matt
